For the first time, SCYSC is offering players and parents an opportunity to get a preview of the evaluation process before the tryouts – why?
FREE GIFT – All players attending the pre-tryout orientation will receive a limited addition SCYSC sweatband and tattoo!
What to expect at Tryouts?
SCYSC Director of Coaching and Player Development has designed three different tryout programs, applicable for the age and ability levels of the players (Junior U7/U8; Blue U9-U12 and Gold U13+).
1. Players will sign in at least 15 minutes before the tryout commencement and receive a numbered vest.
2. The evaluators will greet the players and start off with a warm-up activity.
3. Parents will be directed to different observation points around the field complex. Parents should not distract players during the sessions.
4. Each academy program has a unique evaluation form and competency descriptors (available on request).
5. Evaluators are qualified coaches who are trained to evaluate players by SCYSC Director of Coaching. SCYSC also hires 3-4 independent
evaluators to support the club in making the correct decisions.
6. Tryout session schedule:
Warm-up – 20 min: Focus on attacking and defending individually and in pairs.
Functional activity – 20 min: Emphasis on combination play, creating space and defending.
Small sided game – Focus on working with teammates in attack and defense.
Full Game Assessment – 25 min: 4v4 (U8), 7v7 (U9 & U10), 9v9 (U11 & U12), 11v11 (U13+).
7. Player Selection and notification: All players will be notified of the tryout results within 7 days of tryout. If possible, coaches and tryout
committee will endeavor to notify players within 48 hours.
8. SCYSC offers a twice a year tryout program. The tryout for Fall Season is in June, and there is a second tryout in November to coincide with the
first 2 weeks WWIS availability. There are 3 possible commitment options: Year-round; Fall and Winter only or Winter and Spring only.
9. Team coaches and/or Director of Coaching will be available to answer parent questions after the tryout event.
- We want players/parents to be prepared for tryouts – no surprises!
- Knowing the assessment activities allows players to practice and be at their best at the tryouts – South DOC will show all the activities to the attendees.
- Helps to reduce nerves and increase confidence – we will inform attendees exactly what we are looking for.
- Provides an opportunity for players to meet the coaches/evaluators before the tryout.
- Parents and players get to meet other families and prospective teammates.
- Parents and players will learn about the club, playing philosophies and have an opportunity to ask important questions.
