Our philosophy

There is a concerted effort underway to move from a team-centric approach to individual player development. This means that team rosters may be more dynamic with players moving from team to team as their skills develop with the goal of grouping players together with similar skills. The ultimate goal is to develop large groups of skilled players at each age group to create more competitive teams. The larger numbers become ever more important as the rosters grow from 12-14 players for U12 to 18 players for U14 and above. To facilitate this development, efforts will be made for same age group teams to train/practice together as one group. This will allow for more consistent training by coaches who can now observe all players and re-evaluate as needed.

about competitive teams

  • SuperLiga A & B groups (gender specific):  Selected players will participate on SCYSC Super Liga teams – single age groups if numbers permit!  Players not selected for a Super Liga team can participate in the Recreation Program.
  • Coaching: Each team is assigned a volunteer Head Coach and volunteer Assistant Coach.
  • Practice Frequency/Duration: Once/twice a week, approximately 60-90 minutes. Players are encouraged to participate in supplemental programming.
  • Programming: A full season commitment to competitive soccer typically includes:
    • Fall and Spring league play
    • Weekly outdoor Technical Training during Spring/Fall
    • Weekly team practices during Spring/Fall
    • Winter indoor training opportunities
    • Tournament play (Seaside Classic plus another)
  • The cost for 2022/23 season is $425 for all age groups (plus purchase of uniforms).
  • Uniforms: All new competitive players must purchase uniforms.

general tryout INformation

Player tryouts are offered once a year. All current and new players interested in joining a team must attend tryouts. Our objective is to form boys/girls teams per age group starting with U8. Often, there will be an ‘A’ team and a ‘B’ team – SCYSC evaluators select players based on perceived ability.

Players wishing to participate on a team must pre-register and attend tryouts on the published dates. If the number of players registered for the tryout is equal or less than the roster limit, SCYSC may decide not to hold a tryout. This decision will be made after the registration closing date.

Players unable to attend a tryout must submit a waiver request in writing to Michael Interlini, our Competitive Director, no later than 7 days prior to the start of tryouts. Waiver requests must include reason for not attending the tryout.  Email Michael here.

Player selection is based on the following:
  • Performance from the on-field evaluations at tryouts.
  • Coach evaluations conducted by SCYSC Head Coaches from prior seasons.
  • Previous game and training performances if such data exists.
This information will be used to place players on teams that will best fit their current and expected development.
