Our Competitive Program philosophy

Through our competitive program, we aim to develop successful, competitive teams and successful, competitive players.

Our goal is to form the strongest teams in each age group while encouraging individual player development. Players who share similar skills are grouped together to form a team and each team is placed in a competitive division that is intended to challenge, foster growth, and build confidence.

This competitive league game play combined with organized, community-based programming provides the foundation and tools for teams to advance year after year and for young players to be better prepared for scholastic league play and other future opportunities.

about competitive teams

  • Super Liga A & B groups (gender specific):  Selected players will participate on SCYSC Super Liga teams – single age groups if numbers permit. Players not selected for a Super Liga team can participate in the Recreation Program.
  • Coaching: Each team is assigned a volunteer Head Coach and volunteer Assistant Coach.
  • Practice Frequency/Duration: Once/twice a week, approximately 60-90 minutes. Players are encouraged to participate in supplemental programming.
  • Programming: A full season commitment to competitive soccer typically includes:
    • Fall and Spring league play
    • Weekly outdoor Technical Training during Spring/Fall
    • Weekly team practices during Spring/Fall
    • Winter indoor training opportunities, including the popular open play
    • Tournament play (Seaside Classic plus another)
    • All Competitive players may also play Rec at no additional cost
  • Uniforms: All new competitive players must purchase uniforms.
  • Cost: TBD for 2023/24 season.

general tryout INformation

Player tryouts are offered once a year. All current and new players interested in joining a team must attend tryouts. Our objective is to form boys/girls teams per age group starting with U7/U8. Often, there will be an ‘A’ team and a ‘B’ team.

Player selection is based on the following criteria:
  • Performance from the on-field evaluations at tryouts.
  • Coach evaluations conducted by SCYSC Head and Assistant Coaches from prior seasons.
  • Previous game and training performances if such data exists.
  • The discretion of the Competitive Program Committee.

This information will be used to place players on teams that will best fit their current and expected development.

Players wishing to participate on a team must pre-register and attend tryouts on the published dates.
Players unable to attend a tryout must submit a waiver request in writing to Michael Interlini, our Competitive Director, no later than 7 days prior to the start of tryouts. Waiver requests must include reason for not attending the tryout. Players wishing to join a team after tryouts have passed or mid-season, should also contact our competitive director. Email Michael here.
