Our Competitive Program philosophy

Through our competitive program, we aim to develop successful, competitive teams and successful, competitive players.

Our goal is to form the strongest teams in each age birth year group while encouraging individual player development. Players who share similar skills are grouped together to form a team and each team is placed in a competitive division that is intended to challenge, foster growth, and build confidence.*

This competitive league game play combined with organized, community-based programming provides the foundation and tools for teams to advance year after year and for young players to be better prepared for scholastic league play and other future opportunities.

*Beginning in the 2026–27 season, SCYSC will adopt the school-year, grade-based age grouping recommended by US Youth Soccer,  aligning players with their school peers.

Competitive Leagues: Our competitive teams participate in two leagues: NECSL and Super Liga. These leagues offer gender-specific, age-based competition with divisions organized by skill level. Team placement is determined by competitive readiness, developmental fit, and league eligibility requirements, as evaluated by the Competitive Director in collaboration with club coaches.

Super Liga provides a strong, competitive, and developmentally appropriate league environment across Rhode Island (and neighboring MA and CT towns). The league offers multiple divisions to ensure appropriate competitive balance, with placement guided by the SCYSC Competitive Director and coaches.

  • Players may not roster or compete for another NECSL club
