SCYSC Goalkeeper Academy

August 2016.  Commencing for the Fall season 2016, SCYSC is offering a 'pilot' Goalkeeper Academy for competitive and elite team keepers.  Coach Diego Monteiro, a Brazilian born Goalkeeping specialist from Challenger Sports will be leading the program on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Tuckertown Park.  30+ keepers will participate in small group sessions once a week.

"Providing specialist goalkeeper coaching is essential for any club serious about player development" says David Newbery (SCYSC Director of Coaching and Player Development).  "Goalkeeping requires a unique skill set that few team coaches have the experience or time to coach.  Within a few weeks we will see noticeable improvement in our keepers handling, movement, positioning and hopefully ... goals against!"

There will be 3 tiers to the program - Junior, Intermediate and Advanced

Junior Academy

Our Junior keepers, age 7-8 years old will learn the fundamental techniques of the keeper position such as catching, feet movement, throwing and other distribution techniques.  Most importantly, the boys and girls will learn to love playing in goal.

Intermediate Academy

Intermediate keepers (9-11 years old) will focus on reinforcing and refining the basic techniques and learn to perform in a game environment.  Positioning, shot stopping, resetting after making a save, boxing (punching) and distributing with the feet are all areas of focus. 

Advanced Academy

Making spectacular saves will be the hallmark of Advanced keepers (12+ years old) in the SCYSC Goalkeeper Academy.  Catching crosses, organizing the defense, starting attacks from the back, strategies to save penalties and long range distribution are features of the Advanced Academy.
