The Elite Program is designed for players who have achieved the highest level of ability within their age group and gender and who have expressed a high level of commitment to play the game of soccer. The Elite Program supports these top players by providing the best in technical and tactical training and by creating a supportive environment in which players can develop to their full capacity. The Elite Program will provide year-round player development.
Elite Program Description
• Elite teams draw from a larger player pool than does the current Competitive Program for most age groups.
• For each age and gender in which an Elite team is formed, there is also be a Competitive team for those players who are not selected or choose not to participate.
• Although there may be some variability in regional tournaments and leagues for each Elite team, there will be consistency in the quality of competition for all Elite teams. Most Elite teams compete in the New England Premiership (NEP). Some elect to play in state leagues such as RI Super Liga.
• There will only be one (1) Elite team per age group/gender.
• There is a development path that includes a college prep program for age appropriate players.
Elite Player Selection
• Evaluations for an Elite team are separate from those for Competitive teams.
• Evaluations are overseen by the Technical Director and by professional coaches.
• Players will be offered a place on an Elite team by the team coach. A coach's selection criteria are based on a variety of factors, including direct knowledge of a player's past performance, recommendations from a player's former coach(es), and the evaluation made during a single or multiple day tryout.
FAQ's
What is the difference between the Elite Program and premier soccer?
Premier soccer is interpreted differently depending on location. In most areas, premier indicates a higher level of competition and coaching than competitive soccer. Our Elite Program is aligned with the Rhode Island meaning of the term premier. We draw on a regional pool of players and field Elite teams without constraint on the number of towns from which players are drawn.
Will other Age Groups / Genders be included in the Elite Soccer Program?
As the Program matures, additional age groups/genders that have the potential to compete at a high level will be considered for forming an Elite team.
Can a player also tryout for a Competitive Team?
Yes. Players who tryout for an Elite team will know the result of the selection process, and, if selected, be required to commit to the Elite Program, prior to the date of the evaluations for the Competitive Program.
Who are the Elite team coaches?
Coaches of Elite teams are expected to have played the game at a high level and to have a strong record of coaching. These full-time professional coaches will also have obtained appropriate licenses through a recognized soccer organization in the US, Europe, or South America. The nomination of professional coaches is the responsibility of the Technical Director, and final approval is made by the Elite Program Governance Committee.
What is the time commitment?
The Elite Program is year round. Although it may vary slightly from team to team, Elite players can anticipate training two (2) times per week in the Fall and Spring with "down" times scheduled around the winter holidays and in late summer. League and Tournament matches will take place primarily on weekends; however, there may be an occasional match scheduled for a weekday evening.
Is there a standard curriculum and development path for Elite players?
Yes. The Technical Director is responsible for creating a state-of-the-art curriculum covering player development from the earliest years through U17 and for ensuring the highest level of coaching.
Where are training sessions to be held?
The primary indoor training facility is the Wide World of Indoor Sports (WWIS) located in Quonset, North Kingstown, Rhode Island. The primary outdoor training and match competition facility is located at Tuckertown Park in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Other training and match facilities may be designated from time to time based on the discretion of the team coach and Elite Program Committee.
In which leagues and tournaments will Elite teams participate?
Elite teams participate in regional leagues, such as the New England Premiership, and regional tournaments that present the appropriate level of competition for the individual teams. Some elect to play in state leagues such as RI Super Liga, as well. The overriding goal is to introduce players to a level of competition that challenges them and strengthens their individual and team abilities.
How does the Elite Program prepare players for college?
Players rostered on teams ages 14, 15, 16 and their parents will be invited to participate in College Preparatory Seminars held at least once a year. These seminars will provide an overview of how parents and players should interact with college coaches and tips on improving their chances of playing at the college level. Additionally, teams with players aged 15, 16 and 17 will be entered into at least two (2) college show-case tournaments each year in order to profile players to college coaches.
Are there exceptional players who may need even higher levels of competition and training?
If a player performs at a level that greatly exceeds the level of play of an Elite team, that player may be asked to play either with an older Elite team or be introduced to a program such as the Revolution Academy.
What is the financial commitment?
Costs for the 2015/2016 season have yet to be determined and are dependent on whether the team utilizes professional coaching. Families of Elite players can expect to pay substantially less than what players of comparable RI premier clubs do. This fee does not include the uniform or travel expenses to tournaments.
What does the fee cover?
