Dear Parents, Players, Coaches, and Fans of SCYSC,
Over the past several weeks we have been carefully monitoring the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on our community. Recently there have been important new developments:
With this information, we have made the prudent decision to cancel the Recreational league season this spring. In conjunction, Super Liga has notified us that the competitive spring season is also canceled. We very much wanted to have a season and get the kids back out on the fields and were hopeful this would happen. It is the mission of SCYSC to provide an enjoyable, safe, and quality soccer experience for children. We value our community. While we are deeply saddened we won’t have a Rec or Competitive season, we feel confident this is the best way to keep everyone safe and help limit the spread of Coronavirus, so we can look forward to a fun and successful fall season. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization relying on registration fees and donations to operate, we do not take this decision lightly. We have already purchased spring Rec uniforms, however, we intend to reuse the uniforms next season which will help to avoid any significant financial impact on our organization as a result of this decision. For the competitive season, some costs have been incurred such as a portion of league registration fees that will not be returned and some early spring field space at WWIS which credits are pending. We will be issuing a refund to all registrants for our spring programs. Please look for your refund by Friday, May 8. If you have any questions or have not received your refund by May 8, please contact our office, 401-782-8200. If you are interested in donating your registration fee to the Club in lieu of a refund, please let us know. As of now, we are continuing to plan for hosting the Seaside Classic tournament on July 11-12th at Tuckertown and Ninigret Park. As you may know, this volunteer-run tournament is the largest fundraising event our Club hosts all year and has raised over $40,000 per year for the last several years, bringing in over 120 teams from NY, CT, VT, MA, and beyond. The success of this tournament directly impacts the costs of registration fees for our future Rec and Competitive programs by reducing overhead costs and making winter field space available. We hope that under the Governor’s new plan to re-open businesses and parks, we will find ourselves “ready to go” by July. Our board has been and will continue to meet on a regular basis during this unprecedented time. It is on the forefront of all our minds to make sure our children still have an opportunity to grow their love of soccer, exercise, and have fun! We are exploring opportunities for kids to practice their skills virtually, in their own front yards, or on the fields when they open. We are also anticipating and starting to plan for the fall season and will follow up regarding tryouts, etc. Expect to hear from us as any new developments or decisions occur. We look forward to better (soccer-filled) days ahead! Stay well. Sincerely, SCYSC Board of Directors |
