Junior Travel (U8) Spring 2017 Jamboree Photos
South County, Coventry, North Kingstown, Westerly and Exeter West Greenwich collaborated to provide opportunities for participants in the U7/U8 House (recreation) programs to play against teams from another town. The Jamboree is a two-part pilot, with Coventry hosting the first Jamboree and South County hosting the second session. Boys and girls played 4v4 matches with a short break between games, coached by the volunteers working with the players in the recreation program. The coaches did a wonderful job of organizing our players and offered plenty of enthusiasm and encouragement. After the game all players huddled together for a group photo, followed by a patch exchange, trophy ceremony and a well earn treat!
‘This is a new initiative giving children from South County a chance to experience the thrill of playing a game against an opponent from another town. Our objective is to raise the profile of the house program and provide a ‘taste’ of the travel experience. This is one step in the plan to improve the quality of programming and coaching education for all our house players. Coventry were great hosts and the organization was outstanding - we managed to play seven games in a ninety minute period. As the photographs show, the players loved the experience and we are looking forward to having Coventry Westerly, Coventry and North Kingstown visit South.’
