NCAA Clearinghouse
NCAA Clearinghouse SCYSC recommends that any student athlete who is strongly considering playing a Junior Varsity or Varsity sport in college, which is governed by NCAA rules, register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Student athletes who plan on participating in intramural sports only, do not need to register. Further, if the school you are planning on attending is not a NCAA sanctioned school (i.e. NAIA) you do not need to register. However, you need to determine what the academic eligibility requirements are for that school, and take whatever steps necessary to comply with the rules. For student athletes who anticipate playing at a NCAA, Division III School, we still recommend that you register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. NCAA Division III schools establish their own rules for athletic eligibility, however being “cleared” through the NCAA Clearinghouse will normally mean that you will meet all Division III requirements. Again, we recommend that you check with each Division III Schools that you apply too, to determine their academic eligibility requirements for playing a sport. A student athlete should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse in their junior year when he/she beginnings taking the SAT or ACT exams. Registration can be accomplished by entering a “School Code” of 9999 as one of your four free schools to send test results too. We recommend that the results be sent with your first taking of the SAT/ACT. Normally at this time the student athlete is still narrowing their list of schools, or has not decided on a choice of schools.
