Seven Spring 2009 Super Liga Champions From SCYSC

It was a common site at the Rhode Island Youth Super Liga Championships on June 13--South County Youth Soccer Club teams graciously accepting their gold medals after capturing seven titles in their respective divisions. There was also one runner-up.

The club’s competitive director and long-time coach, Andy Curtis said no other club had more than one champion.

 “We had teams playing in 33 percent of all the championship games,” a justifiably proud Curtis said. “We do not even enter teams in many of the lower divisions that played championship games. If there were South County teams in a Super Liga division, the chances were over 50 percent that one of those South teams would be in the championship game. There are a number of clubs that have the number of teams and players we have. It's a real eye opener when you look at the depth and breadth of talented teams that we put on the field. This is a huge compliment to the nearly 100 volunteer coaches and professional staff.”
