At the March 19th Board of Directors meeting, the Board unanimously elected Bob Gulla to the Board position of Director of Coaching. As Director of Coaching, Bob will have the following responsibilities and duties:
1. Developing an age-appropriate coaching program for recreational leagues coaches
2. Developing an age-appropriate coaching program for competitive leagues coaches
3. Establishing and directing a coaching certification program for competitive league coaches.
As the Director of Coaching, Bob will provide the guidance to direct our excellent professional coaching staff, led by our coaching coordinator czar Jay Primiano, to address the needs of our cadre of volunteer coaches.
Bob has coached both House and Travel league teams for the last six years and is already firmly ensconced this spring as a coach or assistant coach for three of his children's travel teams. With his four children playing soccer in both the House and Competitive Leagues you can bet he is well aware of the state of the Club's coaching affairs. As Bob states, "Right now, there's more coaching talent club-wide than I've ever seen, and I'm really looking forward to helping them and the club develop a vision for our kids."
As a two-sport All State athlete out of Westerly High School, Bob played and captained both the the soccer and baseball teams at Middlebury College, where the soccer team was nationally ranked in Division III. He continued playing in RI and Mass semi-pro / amateur leagues after graduation. You can still catch him playing in adult leagues today with whatever free time he has left after coaching and shuttling his children to soccer and hockey events.
Wecome aboard Bob!
